Useful Training Limited is a company specialising in training for supported housing providers (Supporting People providers). We exist to help services maximise the value of their people by developing and expanding skills, so that providers can make the greatest possible difference in the lives of vulnerable people.
Over 2200 staff from 900 services have attended Useful Training open access and in-house courses since we started our work in 2007. We understand the skills that are key to the success of supported housing services. Our training will develop an individual's potential into performance that brings results at the front-line.
Experts
Useful Training trainers are subject-expert trainers rather than generic trainers. Each trainer has a high-level of knowledge and experience in their field and incorporates the latest leading edge thinking into their training practice. Many of our trainers are well known as experts in their field, both in the supported housing sector and more widely within the public, private and voluntary sectors. All are talented and effective trainers, with skills that in our experience are unusual in the sector.
Enjoyable
We are aware that every training day has a cost, both financially and in terms of disruption to service delivery. With this in mind we work to ensure that our courses are interesting, relevant and thoroughly useful. Our trainers deliver in a style that is engaging, leaving delegates feeling energised and enabled.
Relevant
Our trainers give consideration to the development of skills that are relevant to your role and your service type. People who attend our courses are from a wide range of services. From direct access hostels to supported housing for people with mental health problems, generic floating support to sheltered housing for older people. Our trainers are aware of the issues and the challenges that different service types face on a daily basis.
Methods
Our trainers use a variety of up-beat training methods to ensure that the day is positive and inspirational. Methods adapted may include small group discussions and group tasks, role play (where appropriate), practical case studies, exercises, short active PowerPoint sessions, question and answer sessions, videos and good practice examples. Delegates are involved throughout the day, to gain as much as possible from the trainer's expertise, as well as from the experience and insight of other delegates.
Coverage
Our training courses cover many aspects of supported housing life, such as needs / risk assessment, support planning, professional boundaries, adult protection and service user involvement. We don't cover every subject area. We train in the areas where we can offer the best training expertise.
